Beat Street Kingston | R.036

Beat Street Kingston | R.036

Beat Street is ground zero on the timeline and historical development of Jamaica’s popular culture, it is a specific place in the heart of downtown Kingston, Jamaica. Beat Street is the name given to a section of the famed Orange street where some of the biggest icons of reggae music got there start, including Bob Marley and many others. Some of reggae’s most influential producers like Prince Buster, Duke Reid had their studios and record stores. This and surrounding areas were the center of immense recording and sound system activities in the 1950s to early 70s; ska, rocksteady, reggae, and dub exploded from this place to find roots on almost every inhibited continent on our planet. This is an important historical zone that deserves to be preserved and redeveloped as a reggae historical and economic zone. This contemporary and iconic poster is celebrating that important legacy of our music.
